Subject: CoordMotion linear interpolations
Hello,

What do I do if I have a multi axis machine (3+) and I want to do a Straight feed with only a pair of axes?

Do I need to set my coordinate system to disable the unused axes and re-map them when I wish to some 3 axis interpolations?

Thanks,

Brad Murry

Hi Brad,

I'm not sure I understand, but no, there should be no problem moving only 2 of a 3 axes system.  Just command the unused axis to the same place it already is and it wont move.

I think your problem might have been the reverse situation - commanding 2 or more axes to move in a 1 axis system.  That is somewhat illegal as parameters from the undefined axis might not be valid.

Wishful thinking on my part...

I guess I was thinking it would be great if I passed the unused axis position parameters as null then it would only update the positions of the other non-null axis position parameters.

I get around explicitly specifying all axis values in my current systems by creating various axis groups(XY,XZ,YZ,XYZ,etc...) and activating them as needed. I think I will stick with this approach for some of my non-cnc applications.

Thanks again,
